THE STUDIO is a multifunctional space that offers art exhibitions and private kitchen services, with the aim of combining art, food, and conversation. This time, we are honored to invite the artist Michael Vincent Manalo (MVM) to showcase his series "Chasing Dreams," and collaborate in hosting events such as dinners and workshops. ✣ Michael Vincent Manalo(MVM) solo exhibition 《CHASING DREAMS 》 ✣
This series of acrylic canvas paintings is born from Michael's prolonged self-dialogue. "Chasing Dreams" is a journey filled with hope, where every individual carries distant aspirations in their hearts. After experiencing self-doubt repeatedly, these dreams gradually take shape as ideals. Michael often listens to programs about Marcus Aurelius, allowing his philosophical perspective to accompany him on a long and solitary journey of self-reflection, attempting to understand life from the perspective of the universal view, eliminating unnecessary noise, and focusing on the inner desires in the limited time.
As a digital artist, Michael excels in creating works using a combination of media. The pieces in this exhibition span two mediums: "acrylic canvas paintings" and "AR technology," allowing viewers to immerse themselves more fully in Michael's spiritual journey.
▉Chasing Dreams
① AR Technology
As a digital artist, Michael has previously incorporated various elements of surrealism into his works (Figure 1-3). Even in the "Chasing Dreams" exhibition, where acrylic canvas paintings serve as the primary medium, he has retained his magical style. What's even more astounding is that Michael has integrated AR technology into some of his pieces, allowing the audience to immerse themselves more fully in his artistic journey.
Michael Vincent Manalo, an artist from the Philippines, travels the world in pursuit of his art. His "Chasing Dreams" series is born from his self-reflection during this journey. This hopeful journey represents the distant goals that shine in everyone's hearts. It's a journey of self-discovery where one's ideals gradually take shape after experiencing self-doubt. This journey is also inspired by the philosopher Marco Aurelio, helping him understand life, eliminate unnecessary noise, and focus on the beauty of inner desires.

② The Central Character
The artworks in the "Chasing Dreams" series always center around a character wearing a yellow hooded garment (Figures 4-6). However, this central character has their back to the audience, situated in a dimly lit setting, emanating a sense of solitude in their pursuit of dreams. This loneliness also represents a form of self-preservation, as the creation of these works coincided with the global pandemic period from 2020 to 2022.

③ Imperfections exist In the latest
"Chasing Dreams" series (Figure 7), we see surreal imagery with red, blue, and yellow lines that flicker like a screen glitch, disrupting the once fantastical yet harmonious scene. This symbolizes imperfection, suggesting that even when dreams are realized, we may still encounter challenges and unsolved mysteries, highlighting the illusion that can exist behind success.

Fortunately, having lived in various places, Michael slowly extracts his unique story from the intersections of cultures, the people he meets, and the challenges he faces. Since our brain's capacity to store travel memories is limited, we rely on our taste buds. Each dish becomes a sensory time machine, allowing us to relive emotions and memories.
As a private kitchen space that combines food and art, THE STUDIO is collaborating with Michael on this occasion. The theme, "Chasing Dreams," will transform elements from the artist's exhibition into a dining experience, providing guests with an immersive sensory experience involving visual, taste, and auditory elements.

If you're interested in art creation, we also offer an automatic drawing workshop led by the artist, Michael.
